Passenger Coaches from Bautzen - the most important manufacture Activity until 1990
The Waggonbau Bautzen became famous by his up to date passenger coach manufacturing. A special peculiarity of manufacture was the vertical range of manufacture. Nearly every equipment was manufactured by internal shops like seats, windows, toilet interior, everything from wood and plastic. Brake equipment, bogies, and electrical components were purchased from outside. Only after 1980 some components like windows or seats were manufactured by specialised factories.

A three-axle passenger coach. The seats of the fourth class were made from simple wood battens, the fishy lightening was by gas-lamps. Each coach was equipped with a small compartment for the brake-man. According acoustic signals from the locomotive the brake-mans of each coach had to activate or deactivate the brakes. There was no through pipe for braking at this time! |

A new invention of this time was the car body made from steel. In general the manufacture of the car body in this time was the work of cartwrights and joiners.

Sleeping car build between 1951 and 1953.
In this years only express-trains were equipped with gangways between the coaches. At trains without gangways the conductor had to move hand over hand outside from coach to coach and sometimes from compartment to compartment.

This is a luggage car, manufactured in 1960 for the Deutsche Reichsbahn. This car is equipped with a roof raising - by this the guard could see the next stop and prepare accordingly. |

Since 10 years the company manufactured passenger coaches according UIC-regulations. The high roof was rather inconvenient but with some advantages: Space for air-condition equipment and ducts. The ends are equipped with rubber-tubes gangways. This coach was manufactured in 1972 for Deutsche Reichsbahn. |

Since 1975 the Waggonbau Bautzen manufactured the coaches type Z according UIC regulation. The coaches of this type have reduced width but increased length. Other characteristics are the swiveling-and-sliding door, designed at Bautzen. These doors are very easy to operate by the passengers. This coach was manufactured in 1975. |

The manufacture of vehicles for main lines in Bautzen ended in 1995 (so far)- this is one of the last coaches of this type, a comfortable dining car for Hungary Railways. |
