Goods wagons from Bautzen

For a long time the production of good wagons was a profitable matter for the company because of big numbers and the manufacturing at special high productive fixtures and the use of assembly lines.

Alter Weintransportwagen This wagon produced in the twenties for wine transportation had a capacity of 15 tons and a compartment for guards.

Schmalspurkipper After World War II the country needed big numbers of goods wagons for lignite transportation - this type was delivered by the Bautzen company.

The Soviet Union ordered so called 'Cooler Wagons for Wine Transportation' in big numbers after World War II. But nobody believed in the story of the 'Cooler Wagons for Wine'. More believable was that the wagons was ordered to transport fuel for rockets. The quality requirements were extremely high - for instance any - even the smallest - failure in the inner email-layer was repaired by gold-fillings. Each wagon was equipped with a compartment for guards.

After 1960 the production of goods wagons in the GDR ended. Now the goods wagons were manufactured and imported from other socialist countries. But goods wagons with higher technical level were still manufactured at Dessau (cooling goods wagons) and at Niesky (specialized goods wagons).
