The Operating Device - the interface human/machine interface

The coupler connection is disconnected by the operating device. The device is arranged on both end sides of the vehicle. The locker of the coupler comes out of the lock-position by actuation of the device.

If necessary the device may be locked to the so called 'buffer - position'. In this case the coupler works as a buffer without to couple.

It seems a simple matter. But there were problems too. In tests sometimes the couple operation failed for unknown reasons. Finally slow motion films showed the reason!

During the coupling process the lever of the device has been turned up by the longitudinal acceleration in a position impossible to couple.

The problem has been solved by locking latches. The latches hinder the actuation by acceleration forces but the regular uncouple operation is uneffected.

It is remarkable that even in this time the OSShD-design took in consideration the use of automatic devices for uncouple procedures in connection with future destination identifications.
